Nature Walk and Poetry Workshop With Jessica Elena Aquino
Artist Jessica Elena Aquino (she/they) is a fiber interdisciplinary artist, educator, and poet from Santa Ana, CA currently based in Brooklyn, NY. Raised in a first-generation Mexican family, storytelling is her family's love language. Growing up, the family cuentos served as a fragmented guide in maneuvering the clashing worlds of identity, cultural upbringing and society's expectations.
The poetry workshop and nature walk event began with a 10-15 minute nature walk on Haverford’s campus led by the artist, followed by an hour long art-poetry writing workshop focusing on building relationships between personal history, memory, and the collective energy of community. During the workshop, Aquino shared her artistic journey and how poetry continues to influence her art. People attending the event brought a notepad and something to write with.
