Water Ceremony and Communal Dinner with Comedor Azul
Consisting of multidisciplinary artists Leslie-Gomez-Gonzalez, Amaris Cruz-Guerrero, and Joaquin Stacey-Calle, Comedor Azul is a collective that lives and works in Miami, Florida. Their collective consists of a blue table that travels to different communities in efforts to share, listen, and sit together. Their practice is centered on reintroducing traditional foods through the decolonization of recipes and sharing of these meals. Which allows them to be in a living relationship to food – a reclaiming of Black and Indigenous food knowledge from their motherlands: Republica Dominicana, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, and Ecuador.
At this event, attendees got to be part of a water ceremony followed by a meal gathering which was held in the VCAM Kitchen/Lounge area at Haverford College. The meal consisted of foods such as guanimes, berenjena guisado, pollo guisado, moro de habichuelas, and locro de papas. In between events there was time for everyone to decompress and relax. Construction paper and pens was made available for guests to write down any reflections. This event was intended as a moment to eat together and share collective stories with one another as a way to relax and recharge from the stressors of everyday life.
