Patchwork of Stories Mural

DVAA x I Belong Philly, Thomas Jefferson University, Mural Arts Philadelphia, Artist Henry Morales:

In 2022, Da Vinci Art Alliance partnered with I Belong Philly - a volunteer-led collaborative dedicated to serving immigrant communities in the Greater Philadelphia area- Thomas Jefferson University, Mural Arts Philadelphia and Artist Henry Morales. The 2022 Everyday Genius cohort celebrated the achievements of Philadelphia’s immigrant teachers, artists, medical workers, scientists, activists, and community heroes- highlighting their integral contributions to our shared communities through interviews, public banners, and a temporary wheat-paste mural erected in the heart of Philadelphia.

The mural Patchwork of Stories, created by artist Henry Morales, is a collage/painting that was made from conversations and interviews done with the selected Everyday Genius cohort. Using personalized and sourced images, phrases, and cultural textiles, each panel represents five different themes that resinated with each genius that both depicted their personal history/ cultures and their time living in Philadelphia thus far. The themes depicted are:

• Building connections through music
        • Everyday ways of remembering home
        • Giving back to the community
        • Making Philadelphia home
        • Celebrating cuisine
